Health & Safety At Work Policy

Graveltech prides itself on its safety record and safe working practices.  We expect our employees to consistently contribute to the upkeep of these practices.  Where required new sites will be assessed and Method Statement will be produced and agreed with all site personnel.  Any potential incidents or accidents are reported and work will cease until resolved.

Our Operations Director is responsible for all Health and Safety advice and procedures.  First Aid and accident reporting is the responsibility of the site personnel.

Accidents and Emergencies

  • All Graveltech site personnel will be fully briefed on emergency procedures at induction and before commencing work on any site.
  • All accidents at Graveltech will be reported at once and noted in the Accidents and Emergencies Report Book.
  • In the event that medical attention is required, the nearest hospital should be contacted or in the event of an emergency dial 999 for urgent assistance.

First Aid Kit

  • Every Graveltech van is equipped with a First Aid Kit which is kept replenished and up to date.

Lifting

  • All site personnel have been trained to lift, and care should be taken to lift in a proper manner so as to avoid back injuries.
  • In the event of a back injury, a back brace should be worn in order to provide additional protection.

Health and Safety Equipment

The foreman at Graveltech will ensure that safe systems of work are carried out.  All site personnel will wear PPE where required and carry out their work in accordance with the required Method Statement.

Graveltech provides all site personnel with the following safety equipment  (with the exception of toe-capped boots sun hats and cream) and is used accordingly:

  • Steel toe-capped boots should be worn at all times.
  • Company shirts should be worn at all times.
  • Gloves should be worn when dealing with timber, stone work, mixing cement, weeding and using power tools.
  • Ear defenders and goggles should be worn when using cutting or mixing equipment, or in the event that the equipment emits either noise or is used in dusty working conditions.
  • Hard hats and high visibility vests should be used when work is being carried out overhead and when large machinery is being used.
  • Face masks and gloves should be worn at all times when cutting stone or in dusty working conditions.
  • In order to avoid sun-stroke and skin burning, sun hats and shirts should be worn and sun-screen applied to exposed areas during hot or sunny weather.
  • Electrical Cables:
    • Circuit breakers must always be attached to electrical cables.
    • Care must be taken to lay cables flat to avoid tripping.
    • In order to avoid accidental severing, care must be taken to lay cables away from other equipment, and all employees must be made aware of the placement of cables.
  • Care should be taken when mixing resins and non-mixers should not be in close proximity to this process. Goggles, gloves and ear defenders should be worn at all times.
  • Protective face masks and goggles should be worn at all times during cleaning of the resin and cement mixers and tools.

Good Practice

  • Care should be taken by all site personnel not to work in close proximity to each other whenever possible. All materials will be kept secure and appropriately locked away safely at the end of each working day.

Site Rules

  • The Operations Director or designated Site Foreman will maintain that all site rules are explained and followed at all times.

Welfare Facilities

  • Welfare facilities will be pointed out to all site personnel on arrival at each new working site.

Risk Assessments

  • Risk Assessments will be carried out as required and reviewed as jobs progress.
